Kids teeth fall out and grow during the year.

How do your teams deal with the expensive issue of updating gum shields?

Hi Dan,

For my team, U12's, U13's next season, we had two options.  For the first one I approached my dentist and asked him what he could do as a job lot and he was very helpful.  He agreed that he would come in on a Saturday if we could all be there and we were..... approx 20 of the squad.  He checked every boy and if he didn't think a fitted gumshield was the right option he told us and everyone else got a fitting.  He managed to do each gumshield at £20 and asked that we just gave a little extra for the girl he got in to do the mixing.  We also went for red which were the team colours and each gumshield had the boys name inside them which was a great idea.  To say thanks we did a photo of the boys similing with gumshields in for his surgery wall and as it happened I was able to give him a lift to Cardiff for the NZ v FRA RWC semi.  For those where a fitted one wasn't an option I bought a pack of 10 boil in the bag ones from www.gumshieldsdirect.co.uk at a cost of £14 for 10.

as said previously if you do a deal with a dentist you can get them down to 20 quid - fortunately in our age group we have a dental technician and he does it free - but on a more serious note, we make gumshields compulsory no gummy no play its as simple as that.

if the can afford 40-50 quid for the latest boot(which they always do) 20quid to save there childs teeth is a small price to pay

Whilst understandably a paremnts decision to spend money on a gumshield to prorect THEIR offspring's teeth is understandable, as a coach/rugby enthusiast the major motivation for gumshields is not the wearer's teeth BUT everybody's else's scalp etc which can horribly ripped by other people's teeth in a collision!
