Has anyone got any decent variations on lineouts.  I currently use 3-1-3, 5-2, 7 and 5 man walk in, 5 man with 3 jumpers in the middle, 4 man with jumper walking in.  What variations would anyone use on the 5 man or the 4 man I currently use?  The 3-1-3 is the most effective but you obviously require 3 decent jumpers (as you should for all lineouts but of course we do not always have that luxury because of injuries etc.).  This is for 1stXV adult rugby at the top of level 7.  Any help would be so appreciated.

TRY TO SET A "SYSTEM" FOR THE SQUAD - AFTER THE FIRST LINEOUT (WHICH BELONGS TO THE REF AND HIS SCENE SETTING) HAVE ABOUT 5 SET PLAYS WITH VARIATIONS THAT YOU CAN RUN THROUGH EVERY TIME YOU HAVE A PUT IN TO THE LINE OUT. THIS WILL SPEED UP YOUR EXECUTION AT THE LINE, ALLOW YOU TO ROTATE YOUR SQUAD PLAYERS SO THAT THEY ALL UNDERSTAND WHAT THEIR JOBS ARE, AND CONFUSES THE HELL OUT OF THE OPPOSITION! THIS WILL ALLOW YOU TO MIX 3,5 AND FULL LINEOUTS WHICH LOOK RANDOM, WITHOUT CALLS, AND SPEED UP THE BALL BACK INTO PLAY. IT WORKED FOR A "SMALLER" SET OF PLAYERS THAT i COACHED AND CAN BE CALLED "SYTEM ON" OR "OFF" AT ANY TIME IF THE LINE OUTS ARE BEING LOST ON YOUR OWN PUT IN. OTHER THAN THAT, EMPOWER THE HOOKER TO CALL THE LINES AS HE IS NORMALLY THE ONE THAT CAN JUDGE THE SUCCESS OF THE JUMPERS AGAINST THEIR OPPOSITION - BETTER THAN THE LINE OUT JUMPERS, THE SUPPORT OR THE SCRUM HALF (WHO'S PERCEPTION IS COLOURED BY THE QUALITY OF BALL HE GETS BACK FROM THE LINE).  HOPE THIS HELPS!

ORSO

when you say a system, that means no call required, does that mean a fixed rotation of the types of line out etc, always same order? ? with only the variation called that reflects the position on pitch or necessary next sequence

general anyone

arrival at lineout:  i see teams walking slow to line and executing fast once there, also going quick to line and executing fast...any input on how to communicate when slow is the option, or fast the option...does this happen best thru periods and then switch over..or is it specific call each lineout?

any input on this tactic please

thx
