Hi,
Had a game recently where one of the opposition players was sinbinned with 12 mins to go. The oppo players then went down a number of times injured to kill time with the result there was 8 mins of injury time.
The sinbinned player was brought back onto the field with only three mins of time played (but ten mins of time elapsed when the injury breaks were taken into account). So the actual gametime spent in the bin was only three mins.
Is this right? Surely the sinbinned player should have been in the bin until there was 2 mins remaining in the game?

| Hi Colm, Yep it should have been game time and not lapsed time. Recently we had a player in the bin for nearly 20 minutes but quite rightly the ref explained to irate spectators that there was a long injury and other minor stoppages that contributed to this. PW

Yeah, I thought as much.
Unfortunately, the opposition went on to score a winning try with the last play. Might not have happened if they only had 14 men.

Had an irate spectator shouting at me at Warriors recently "You - RFU man! Why has the sin binned player returned to the pitch - he was carded 8 minutes before half time?" We had played 2 1/2 minutes of injury time, allowing him back on immediately after half time.
Simples!
