If they play with a flat 3 and a full-back, then straight run at inside shoulders to create an overlap. The most effective defence against this attacking strategy is to have a staggered defence; a shallow front 2 with the outside 2 backs aligning deeper. The deeper 2 are ready for a chip-over, or can join the other 2 if the opposition spread the ball.

RE: 10-a-side Rugby

10-a-side is normally played under 15s rules. Front Row and Second Row in scrum. Half backs, 2 centers and a sweeper. I have seen it played both ways but guess that 15s dominated breakdowns and continuity coupled with sevens back play and patterns works well. It is a great version of the game - fast, furious and fun!!

10-a-side Rugby

Squad is playing in a ten-a-side tournament, I know that rules spitulate 5 forwards, 5 backs. But what i need to understand is how the game is played. Like sevens with players marking area in defence, keeping hold of ball avoiding contact, looking for space and using pace or like 15 a side with forwards hitting rucks/ mauls, pod systems etc backs throwing the ball around in space avoiding contact (very simplistic I know)

Is there a game plan/ structure to try or any to avoid?

Sorry to be very general, but I have never played 10 - a side rugby before, not even sure of the size of the pitch;)
