I guess sound technique breeds confidence, leading to a will to get stuck in a bit more. Good tip!

RE: 100 Rugby Questions

Nieghorn
How do we teach a timid player to become more aggressive? It does depend on your definition of aggressive of course, but in my experience, it is a combination of teaching the best technique to try to ensure that bodily damage to the timid one is minimal, because most timidity is a result of fear of consequences - if I do something rough, something rough is going to re-visit me in spades. Teach technically perfect tackling (for example), then wait. One day, when the player is ready - not when you are ready - the tackle will come, and a beatific smile will spread across the young player's face. Aggression in sport comes from within, not when someone else tries to impose it.

Communication? Ahhh, the great mystery. If anyone masters this one, it'll be Nobel Prize worthy won't it!

RE: 100 Rugby Questions

How can we all (coaches and teammates) encourage the 'timid' player to be more aggressive?

How do we encourage more communication, period?

RE: 100 Rugby Questions

How do I stop my fly half from drifting across the centres?

100 Rugby Questions

I am putting together answers for the top 100 rugby coaching questions that MUST be answered.
