The SRU have just issued an ELV's explanation sheet, and they inform me that if the ball is passed back into the 22, and a ruck, maul or tackle take place in the 22 from that pass back, the subsequent ball from that breakdown can be kicked out on the full. I wasn't aware that this could be done, so I thought I'd mention it in case anybody else had the same understanding as me.

Yes this is the case - basically if a beak down happens then a kick directly to touch is a allowed.

Though I should point out for your reference, if the ball is played back into the 22mtr, no matter how many passes are played within this area noone can kick directly into touch it is a line out back - there has to be a another phase for this to happen.
