Rugby Volleyball Warm-Up

A great skills and conditioning game.

Using the posts as the net, mark out a pitch as wide as the posts, and five metres deep either side of the posts. Have three players on each side, with two balls between them. If you have more players, lengthen the pitch and add more balls.

The players throw the balls over the cross bar at will, with the aim of getting the balls to land in the other team's area. They can catch the ball, run with it and pass it between themselves. However, any player who catches a ball or who runs with it must pass it to a team mate before it can be thrown back.

Each team has five lives. The defending team (the team catching a ball) lose a life if a ball is dropped inside their area. The attacking team (the team throwing a ball) lose a life if they throw a ball under the cross bar or from outside the posts, or if a ball drops outside the defending team's area without it touching a defender first. Of course, with two balls the teams can each be attacking and defending at the same time.

This is a quick and easy game to set up. It's a good practice for catching the high ball and is an especially good warm-up for forwards just before kick off.
