Fun rugby footwork drills

You don't need ladders and hurdles to run good rugby footwork drills. Here is a quick to set up alternative.

  • Put four pairs of players with a ball on each side of a 10m square, with a 5m square in the middle.
  • Have the pairs run through both squares as many times as they can in 30 seconds.
  • Each pair scores a point if they complete a length without touching another player.

Developments

Add in new elements, such as players have to:

  • Pass the ball once inside the middle square.
  • Put down and pick up the ball in the middle square.
  • Put down their own ball and pick up another ball.

Emphasise that the players should consider themselves to have a 50cm "force field" around them that no one is allowed to enter.
