Split once back ball lineout move
Try this lineout move for your entire pack.
When and where to use this move
- Use this move if you have one good jumper and/or more mobile players.
- Use the move to attack with a catch and drive, or a front peel.
- The move is best from their 22, your 22, and 5m from your line.
Why it works
It offers a free jump behind the opposition middle jumper.
Good if you have:
Players who can perform the move swiftly, so preventing the opposition middle jumper from getting back quickly enough.
The move

Players stack four at the front and three at the back. 5 turns and runs to the back of the group.

As 5, 6 and 8 prepare to jump, the hooker starts to throw.

Common mistakes
- 6 jumping too soon before the throw is delivered.
- The opposition middle jumper stepping back 2 or 3 paces to cover the middle and back, meaning the move can't be used.
What to think about in the rugby drill
- 6 coming forwards to meet 5, to get ahead of an opposition jumper positioned further back to cover the middle and back ball.
- Using the move to attack from inside the opposition half.
