Rugby coaching tips for a dynamic power step

In this version of the power step, the ball carrier must first fix the defender and attack the space to one side of them. The ball carrier's next step is to get their inside foot outside the defender.

For example, if attacking the space on the left of the defender, the ball carrier's right foot is placed outside the defender's right shoulder as in this picture.

The power step is the "next step." That is the pivot step which takes the ball carrier beyond the defender.

It is an explosive step away from the tackler and beyond the tackle. It gets the ball carrier partially free from the tackler and in a good position to offload the ball.
